Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

Why you'll love this Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

It's hot chocolate season! And here at JOYÀ HQ, hot cacao season is a few months long.

Besides, is there anything better than a warm, cozy, good-for-you-not-full-of-sugar cup of hot chocolate? One that's easy to make, totally customizable and truly a healthy yet indulgent hot chocolate? We think not.

So what goes in a delicious, adaptogenic hot chocolate?

  • Cacao, of course. Good quality, organic cacao like the one in Calm Cacao Superblend with reishi, maca and mucuna pruriens for added support for the nervous + immune systems and for fighting stress.
  • Good milk base — dairy or non-dairy— for creamy goodness.
  • Optional sweetener. If needed and your choice. We love non-refined sugar options like maple syrup, honey, coconut sugar or dates/date syrup.
  • Extra chocolatey goodness. We love to add a square of Functional Chocolate into the mix.
  • Coffee. Totally optional but if you add coffee, you've got a mocha!
  • Optional creamy blend-ins like nut butter or coconut butter.
  • Toppings. The best part. Homemade coconut whipped cream, extra foam, or even more chocolate drizzled or shaved.

With this much freedom to make it your own, that hot chocolate is going to be perfection!

Ingredients to make an Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

  • 1 scoop (1 tbsp) of Calm Cacao Superblend
  • 1 ½ cups milk/mylk of choice (for a less rich version, substitute a portion with boiling water)
  • optional: sweetener of choice
  • optional for added creaminess: ½-1 tbsp tahini, nut butter or coconut butter
  • optional for added chocolately richness: 2 squares JOYÀ Functional Chocolate
  • optional for mocha version: replace ½ cup of milk with coffee (or herbal coffee substitute)
  • optional: topping of choice...whipped cream, extra milk foam, chocolate shavings, marshmallows, etc...

How to make an Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate

  1. Heat milk on the stovetop (or microwave) until it comes to a simmer.
  2. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until completely smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. (If you're only using milk/water, Calm Superblend and a sweetener (other than dates), you can blend with a handheld frother instead.)
  3. Pour hot chocolate into a mug, add toppings if using and enjoy!
